Custom Subwoofer Enclosures

One of the most difficult aspects for a car audio installer is to design a custom enclosure to fit inside a truck or car while retaining the factory look of the vehicle, not to mention making sure sound quality is top notch at the same time. That all started to change when custom box manufacturers started designing drop in custom fit enclosures for several of the most popular vehicles on the road today such as Chevy, Dodge and Ford. Now instead of spending three or even four hundred dollars on a custom enclosure, a box can now be purchased and dropped into the vehicle without any major modification while keeping the main focus on the overall sound quality and output. For many vehicles the only option is to go with a custom enclosure if you want to keep leg room and / or storage. We are going to look at a few custom enclosures and the basic install process.

Chevy Truck Subwoofer Boxes

First up we will take a look at Chevy / GMC extended cab trucks. Really the year does not matter much on these trucks since we have enclosures available ranging from 1988 to 2009 so regardless of the body style the idea is the same. Our custom enclosures for those trucks are designed to fit under the rear seat and fire downward into the floor. Why down-firing at the floor? Well bass is created by sound pressure so when you have subwoofers that are firing towards the floor the sound waves bounce up and down inside the cab and create up to a 2 dB gain! The really cool thing about this model box is no modification is needed besides moving the jack location on some models. The box will just slide under the rear seat and will not interfere with the rear seat passengers. We have these enclosures available in single or dual woofer configurations. Next let’s take a look at some Dodge boxes. By far the most popular custom enclosures we have for Dodge are the Dodge ram boxes. We make enclosures for both the Dodge Ram extended and quad cab. The Dodge Ram enclosure for the 1994 to 2001 will fit both the extended and quad cab version of the truck. This model is actually down firing and is cut to slide directly under the rear seat without any modification. From 2002 to 2008 there are two separate enclosures. One specifically designed for the extended cab and another model for the quad cab. Both of these enclosures are also down firing; however, they are unique in the fact that they fire into the rear cubby holes under the rear seat. Since those storage spaces are not sealed the sound waves are able to travel into the cab. You can check out the examples below:

Ford Subwoofer Boxes

The last examples we are going to look at are some enclosures for various Ford trucks. First and foremost the F150, F250 and F350 all share the same box design on the extended cab from 1997 to 2003 and again it’s a down firing style enclosure. This particular model enclosure takes into account the split rear bench seat 60/40 and the full bench seat. The enclosure will actually fit either mode seat without a problem.  For the Ford F150 Extended and Crew Cab from 2005-2006 we offer a unique ported enclosure which is designed to install behind the rear seat. This again offers some variety to the install and offers better performance. Last but not least the hardest and most unique box we carry for Ford trucks is the F-250 and F-350 quad cab enclosure which fits the year range of 2004 to 2006. This model enclosure will actually fit behind the rear back seat and adds two 10” or 12” subwoofers to achieve the maximum bass for the space. Check out some more examples below:
